March Movie: Emma

Poster of the movie Emma

The first movie we'll see on our new Movie Club outing day -- Sundays instead of our traditional Tuesdays (because weekday matinees at most of the cinemas we visit have become scarce) -- is Emma. Yes, it's yet another remake of Jane Austen's wry novel about a well meaning but selfish young woman who meddles way too much in the love lives of her friends.

Emma Woodhouse (played by Anya Taylor-Joy) is described as, "Handsome, clever, and rich, a restless queen bee without rivals in her sleepy little town. In this glittering satire of social class and the pain of growing up, Emma must adventure through misguided matches and romantic missteps to find the love that has been there all along." Joining her in the cast are: Bill Nighy (yes!!) as her father and Johnny Flynn as the judgmental Mr. Knightly. The quirky vicker is portrayed by Josh O'Connor (who played Lawrence Durrell so memorably in The Durrells of Corfu) series.

Movie Club members will see the 2020 version of Emma on Sunday, March 8, at the Varsity Cinema  for the 12:50 screening.
